RE: Culinary Craft [with gift]
Hopefully starting a new post for the entry is OK. Didn't know if I should edit my last one or not...

Anyway, I'm really into Turn-of-the-Century right now - started a house series in that vein, actually - so I thought I'd research the looks of kitchens in the 1920's and see what I could come up with. I mainly used this site for inspiration.

I built this kitchen for Annie Parsons. She lives in her great-grandmother's house that has only been slightly updated for the present day. She's a natural cook, very neat, friendly, good, and family-oriented - much like her great-grandmother had been, actually. ;)

Layout from above:

I found that nooks were very important parts of many '20's kitchens, so this was a must-have.

Seated at the nook, this would be your view of the kitchen - and Annie preparing to make some buns for dinner guests later that day. smile
[Image: 20sKitchen01.jpg]

Here you can see some of the upgrades - a real washer and dryer! Granny Parsons didn't have any such luxury. She had a big wash tub and a ringer-washer in that corner in her lifetime.

Blues, yellows, greens, and reds - as well as sparkling white metalics - were very popular back then. These walls are of a blue plaster with a white-washed wood base. That is the back door which leads to the garden and driveway.

Cupboards tended to be sparse in most homes. This island was actually added to the kitchen when Annie's mom was a little girl to give the ladies of the house more working space. They managed to stick to the original style of the room, however, with the rounded countertops and metallic construction.

That island is Annie's favourite place to work. (Despite being a neat freak, she insisted on throwing those eggshells onto the other counter while making the dough! wondering )

The cook's corner - with all the pots, utensils, and cooking paraphenalia a good cook needs, all nice and handy to the stove.

And finally - now that the buns are in the oven rising, Annie can get chopping up those waiting vegetables for the soup! smile

I love this, Buttercup - I completely missed it when you posted and have only just seen it whilst looking at the challenges (forgivemeiloveyou)! Love the island in the middle, and the colours you've used really are very fitting. I do, as always, love your style wink

RE: Culinary Craft [with gift]
I really love those nooks, and I hope you all don't mind I incorporated the idea into my kitchen as well! The only thing is I find Sims can't actually sit on those couches, so I had to compensate by replacing one of my couches for chairs (as you will see in the pics. I had to use the cheat to get the pic of my Sim sitting obediently on the couch). If anyone has found an actual "booth"-style seat that sims can sit on for dining nooks, please let me know!

Penny Brown just moved out on her own after her mother died. Mrs Brown was a small-time TV actress who was known for her charismatic personality. Penny on the other hand, took after her serious father who dealt in stocks, although she seems to get easily excitable like her mother did. Penny is an only child and always occupied herself with her grandmother's cookbooks to stave off loneliness, so when she grew up she decided to learn to cook professionally.

Penny's fondness for geometric patterns reflects her neat, tidy personality. She also loves red, and has tried to brighten up parts of this old riverside cottage with this. She loves the idea of being eco-friendly, and she's particularly fond of the old bookshelf she found at a flea market, which now houses her collection of cookbooks.

2. The main kitchen with stove and covered fridge. Penny makes sure her countertops remain relatively tidy, and the main feature of the kitchen is her workbench in the middle.

4. The dining nook with bay window. Penny loves the faded, patchy paintwork on the old bookshelf, and bought it right away!

That is a really cool kitchen in my opinion! I love all the little details like the hanging meat and the little dining nook! A really cool kitchen!
